Prism Is

Prism is a substance-free gay straight alliance for youth between 13 to 19 years of age.  For the past five years Prism has provided a secure environment that encourages lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning and ally youth to celebrate who they are without shame or apology. Prism is a place to meet other kids like you, and to relax and socialize in a fun and safe environment. We respect the confidentiality of our members—your level of "outness" is respected. Prism strives to be non-discriminatory to all members—no one is forced to label themselves and assumptions are avoided. Prism is owned and operated by Mid-Missouri youth under the supervision of an advisory board. We formed in 1998 in the wake of the Matthew Shepherd murder when local youth decided they needed a safe space to come together, socialize, and support one another. Read more...

What We Do

Prism holds weekly meetings at:

The Hillel Building
1107 University Ave
Columbia, MO

on Wednesday nights at 6:30 to 8:00 pm. All meetings are open to youth between the ages of 13 and 19. On a typical night we might watch a movie, go out for pizza, have a discussion, or work on a project. See our schedule of events, on the PRISM Events Page, to see what's going on this month.
